Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEATTLE—September 16, 2026—Today, Builder communities announce Leadership Card Game, a speaking-card practice experience that helps builders rehearse real workplace leadership moments—customer entrances, resource assembly, narrative ownership, and advanced stakeholder conflict—before those moments decide careers.
Leadership Card Game turns Leadership Principles and Working Backwards habits into short, speakable actions. Players draw cards, read a speaking line aloud, complete the action, apply the side effect honestly, and combine cards across roles to move from community dependency toward builder ownership.
The deck includes 600 cards across basic and advanced levels, with multilingual support for English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. Facilitators can run sessions for 2–6 players, dealing three cards per player each round, then advancing speakers and redealing for the next round.
“Most leadership training stops at slides,” said Dana Okonkwo, Community Programs Lead at Builder Program. “Builders need language they can use in a kickoff, an escalation, or a trust-recovery conversation. Leadership Card Game makes that language practiceable in minutes.”
“I used to wait for a senior person to open the room,” said Miguel Santos, Builder and volunteer organizer. “The cards forced me to name the customer, the owner, and the next checkpoint out loud. That one habit changed how I show up.”
Leadership Card Game is available now as a community showcase demo for facilitators and self-led practice groups. Teams can browse the full deck, open facilitator notes, and start a live multiplayer session from the same experience.

About Builder communities
Builder communities are volunteer-led networks that help builders learn in public, practice customer obsession, and develop leadership through real projects—not theory alone.
FAQ
Customer FAQ
Q: What is Leadership Card Game?
A: It is a multilingual speaking-card practice tool for workplace leadership. Each card includes a title, role, leadership principle, skill rating, speaking line, side effect, advantage, and combination guidance.
Q: Who is it for?
A: Community managers, Builders, facilitators, mentors, and any team that wants repeatable language for trust, inclusion, ownership, and customer-backed decisions.
Q: How do you play?
A: Draw a card for a real situation. Speak the line (or adapt it naturally). Complete the action before claiming the advantage. Apply the side effect honestly. Combine cards across roles to shift toward builder ownership.
Q: What are the win conditions?
A:
- Increase trust, inclusion, consistency, independence, and healthy succession.
- Create direct leadership access, independently assemble resources, prove methods, and own measurable outcomes.
- Begin with customer value, use evidence through disagreement, and finish by delivering responsible results.
Q: What is the difference between Basic and Advanced?
A: Basic uses cards 001–300 (Community Manager and Builder foundations). Advanced uses cards 301–600 for executive conflict, public blame, unsafe dissent, irreversible decisions, and trust recovery.
Q: How many people can play?
A: 2 to 6 players. Each player receives three cards per round. Facilitators can highlight the current speaker while all hands remain visible.
Q: Is this an official AWS product?
A: No. It is a community showcase learning experience inspired by Amazon Working Backwards and Leadership Principles, designed for practice—not certification credit.
Q: Which languages are supported?
A: English, Traditional Chinese (zh-TW), and Simplified Chinese (zh-CN), with the same card structure across locales.
Internal FAQ
Q: Why build a card game instead of another workshop slide deck?
A: Slide decks transfer concepts. Speaking cards transfer behavior. The bottleneck for community leaders is not knowing Leadership Principles—it is using them under pressure with clear ownership and evidence.
Q: What customer problem does this solve first?
A: Hesitation at the entrance: builders who wait for permission to open customer conversations, assemble resources, or author narratives that leadership can scale.
Q: What is the power-transfer moment?
A: When a Builder completes one Entrance card, one Resource card, and one Narrative card in the same workplace challenge—creating a repeatable path for others, not a one-time opportunity for themselves.
Q: How do we measure success in the first 90 days?
A: Number of facilitated sessions run, percentage of players who speak a card aloud in a real meeting within one week, and qualitative evidence that teams replaced vague updates with owner/evidence/checkpoint language.
Q: What are we not solving yet?
A: Automated scoring, HR integrations, and certification mapping. Those come after we prove the speaking habit sticks.
Q: Why multilingual from day one?
A: Community sessions in Asia-Pacific already move between English and Chinese. Leadership language must travel with the room, not force a single locale.
